The 1st part of the scam was based on Harshad Mehta. Now, the 2nd part of the scam is based on the counterfeiter Abdul Karim Telgi. This 2nd season has been already announced by SonyLiv and Applause Entertainment in March 2021. This is also to be directed by Hanslal Mehta. The 2nd season is titled Scam 2003:The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi.

Scam 2003 is adapted from the Hindi book Reporter ki Diary, written by journalist Sanjay Singh. Abdul Karim Telgi was born in Khanapur, Karnataka. He went from being a fruit seller to building an empire counterfeiting stamp papers.

Scam 2003 – Brief Story

As we know, Abdul Karim Telgi was behind the Stamp Paper Scam that was uncovered in 2001. Telgi was believed to pull off a massive amount of 20,000 crores from the scam. He appointed nearly 350 people as agents and used to sell fake stamp papers to banks, insurance companies, and stock brokerage firms. The story had taken the nation by storm and Abdul Karim Telgi was put behind bars the same year.

The case was taken over by CBI. And, eventually, he was sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment in 2006 along with a fine of Rs.202 crores. Telgi died on 27 October 2017 at a Bengaluru hospital. In 2018, a year after Telgi’s death, the Nashik sessions court in Maharashtra had acquitted his other associates in the case stating the absence of solid evidence against them.

Scam 2003:The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi will be directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Applause Entertainment in association with StudioNEXT.
