Karwa Chauth is a one-day Hindu festival celebrated by the married ladies, mostly in the states of North India like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh etc.<\/p>\n
The festival falls in the Hindu month of Kartik on the fourth day after the full moon. It is believed that if married women fast on this day, it helps in extending the life of their husbands and brings bliss in the family. Nowadays, many unmarried girls also keep this fast to pray and wish for a good husband.<\/p>\n

The word Karwa means ‘Pot’ (Pot of Water) and Chauth means ‘Fourth’.<\/p>\n
Long back ago, Karva Chauth was celebrated as a prayer for the long life of soldiers in the war, and by extension, today refers to the well being and long life of a married husband.<\/p>\n
