With a one-year renewal license expiring, National Geographic’s Mars Docudrama series will be leaving Netflix in November 2020. So, if you haven’t seen it yet, binge-watch the two seasons right away.
Otherwise, you’ll regret your decision not to watch it on Netflix.
Now let me tell you the reason, the reason you’d regret it. Mars is a two-season docudrama series from National Geographic. It combines documentary format with fiction that focuses entirely on humanity’s challenge to go to Mars.
The Docudrama portion is what sets the series apart from the rest of the content available on Netflix. There are some regions where The Mars docudrama series is getting canceled in November. However, there are still some regions where the official announcement is yet to be made.
Mars season 1 and 2 are leaving Netflix (regional)
Last year on November 12th Netflix UK streamed Mars Season 2 on its platform. And now, 1 year later, it leaves Netflix the same day it arrived.
By the way, Netflix UK is not the only country that has the National Geographic Documentary Series. Beginning November 12, Mars Season 1 and Mars Season 2 will be leaving Netflix in these regions:
- Belgium
- Brazil
- Czech Republic
- Germany
- Italy
- South Africa
- Spain
- United Kingdom
This list does not include the US.

Netflix US released Mars Season 2 on November 1, 2019. So, like other countries, it can leave Netflix 1 year after its release, which is 2 weeks before Netflix UK.

Netflix Alternatives to Mars’ DocuDrama Series
So the Mars documentary series is leaving Netflix. Is there an alternative shown? Well, if you look closely, you will definitely find some great shows.
For example, The Last Czars is a docudrama that might interest you. Netflix premiered its first season in 2019. As for the storyline, it usually follows the end of the dynasty in Russia.
Furthermore, if you look around, there is a space documentary that Netflix released in 2020, Challenger: The Final Fight. If you like space exploration, that’s the one you should check out first before anything else.
Now, last but not least, the Roman Empire. With 3 seasons on Netflix, the docudrama covers the historical events of the Roman Empire.
