If you haven’t seen it yet The Flight Attendant, you’re missing something. This fantastic dark comedy show on HBO Max is impressing critics and viewers everywhere, and we’re excited to see where the exciting show goes.
But what is this series really about? And when can we watch The Flight Attendant season 2? Let’s dive in and find out.
What’s The Flight Attendant?
The Flight Attendant is a show developed for HBO Max, based on Christ Bohjalian’s book of the same name, written in 2018. Bohjalian himself is quite a character, an Armenian-American writer who worked his way from newspaper columns to full-fledged novels. The Flight Attendant was his twentieth book, the result of a long series of novels that began in 1988.
The story follows Cassandra “Cassie” Bowden, a flight attendant who wakes up next to a murdered man in Dubai. Because she had been drinking heavily the night before, she cannot remember whether she is responsible for his death. So she covers her tracks and returns to work, only to get caught up in the investigation later. Meanwhile, a Russian agent codenamed Miranda, who actually committed the crime, is ordered to kill Cassie.
The book was well received by critics, was selected by Oprah’s Book Club and reached the New York Times bestseller list. But it really kicked off in late 2017, when the TV adaptation kicked off. Kaley Cuoco would star as Cassie Bowden, and she played a huge behind-the-scenes role: her company, Yes Norman Productions, would get the book rights, and Cuoco would be an executive producer on the show.
Only she wouldn’t be alone. In mid-2019, Greg Berlanti would become an executive producer through his company, Berlanti Productions, and shortly after, the show would be announced as an HBO Max exclusive. Shooting began later that year, but had to be stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production later resumed in mid-2020 and the series came out in November of that year.
The show’s debut season
The Flight Attendant‘s first season premiered on November 26, 2020 and aired the first three episodes. More episodes were released weekly, and the season finale finally aired on December 17.
The plot follows the story of the book fairly closely. Cassie Bowden is still an alcoholic train wreck who gets confused with a murder and clears her tracks instead of calling the authorities. Miranda goes after her and the two get caught up in the mess.
At the end of the season, Miranda’s fate is unclear, but Cassie promises to sober up and look to the future. Things seem neatly packed. . . or are they?
What about season 2?
Season 2 is in production. Kaley Cuoco said so much on Instagram on September 7, 2021, posting: “Cassie and Cassie’s hair is back! @flightattendantonmax season 2, get ready for another turbulent descent.” Michelle Gomez, who plays Miranda, is also returning, meaning her character probably survived.
Steve Yockey, the showrunner, told the New York Times: “We’ll just have to wait and see, but we suspect we haven’t seen the last of Miranda yet . . . If we had a second season it would probably be a whole new adventure. , like a new Hitchcock movie that Cassie might stumble into.”
That’s very exciting! The series will be released in the spring or summer of 2022. This time, however, things are a little different.
In mid-2021, TNT & TBS created a service called Front Row, a “limited commercial destination” that will air their original series and shows made for HBO Max. It launched in the summer, and The Flight Attendant did well on the service, so the second season goes to TBS first.
