A taboo to talk about, the adult industry or the porn industry is the one we barely know the depth of, in the sense that we use it for its end product and even enjoy it. Still, we have no clue what malpractices and ethical violations are going on there, nor we want to bide in it.
The Japanese porn industry is a billion-dollar one, and not only domestically, but it also has an appeal worldwide; the series The Naked Director, a Netflix original, tries to shed some light.

The semi-biographical web drama is a Japanese television series premised on the non-fictional novel Zenra Kantoku Muranishi Toru Den by Nobuhiro Motohashi; it revolves around the director, Toru Muranishi; who is the director in ‘The Naked Director.’ While no release date was announced for Season 2.

The movie takes on the evolution of the Japanese porn industry, a pornographic revolution worldwide too, a raucous sex comedy-drama. It is about the director’s ambitions, Toru Muranishi, his vivid life to realize his high aspirations to turn the Japanese porn industry one eighty degrees. The setback he faces and how he comes over it.
There’s a thing called a masterpiece, when it can make porn funny, two or more people engaged in coitus in front of the whole crew, watching them and filming them asking for innumerable retakes brings about a series of nerve-cracking laughs strangely. The critics gave favorable primarily opinions on the series, citing it as brilliant, funny, and colorful.
Plot:
Set in the backdrop of the 1980s, when Japan faced an economic boom, it goes into the depths of the elements that led the Japanese porn industry to where it is today. How a new director who wants to realize his dreams carries out many experiments only to face a setback at the government’s hands cause porn was looked down upon then.
It’s a story of a man who quits his job, a former criminal, and one day he discovers his wife cheating on him. His wife complains about how he couldn’t satisfy her, and thus she ended up an affair with him.
This causes something in him, and he starts up his venture, which he passionately works for, and causes the ‘Pinku Eiga’ era to blossom (the current concept of the industry). Despite facing various obstacles, he doesn’t give up on his dreams, challenging the restrictive Japanese society, defying stigmas, and questioning the taboo related to sex as well.
Cast:
It is one of the first non-English shows to be released by Netflix, so it would be interesting to explore the Japanese culture. In season 2, we can expect the director to explore the realms of the industry more passionately, taking it ahead.
It stars Takayuki Yamada, Shinnosuke Mitsushima, Mesuji Tamayama, Misato Mirato and Jun in lead roles.
