The Best Casino Movies of All Time, Ranked by Experts

1. Casino Royale (2006)

Rated by fans and critics alike as one of the best James Bond movies of all time, Casino Royale is a classic gambling movie with a twist. Bond not only gets involved with people who have connections to the casino world, but he also has to play several games of Texas Hold’em to ensure that international security is not compromised.

One of the reasons why Casino Royale is seen as the best gambling film ever made is because of its affection for the casino world. Every scene that involves a card game, casino, or gambling is crafted with such care and precision. Even if you have never played poker before watching this flick, you will likely want to afterward.

2. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

A movie based on a popular novel, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is about two individuals who are taking a psychedelic road trip through the Western part of the United States.

The main character, played by Johnny Depp, is accompanied on the trip by his lawyer. The two of them have been given a significant sum of money to cover a sporting event for a publication, but they have other plans for that money. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas shows how much fun a person can have when they let loose in the gambling capital of the world.

3. Casino (1995)

A classic Hollywood movie that dates back more than two decades but is still full of charm and intrigue, Casino comes in third place on our list. The Martin Scorcese movie features some of the greatest actors in the history of filmmaking, including Robert De Niro.

We follow De Niro’s character in the movie as he navigates his complicated world and enjoys a life of glitz, glamor, and plenty of casinos. Gambling takes center stage in this movie, which every poker and blackjack aficionado will appreciate.

4. Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

A movie that has spanned many sequels and spin-offs, the 2001 version of Ocean’s Eleven was also a remake of an older film with the same title. We chose this version for our top five list because it is possibly the high point of the entire franchise.

This version of Ocean’s Eleven certainly packs the star power, featuring the likes of George Clooney and Brad Pitt in career-defining roles, along with Matt Damon and Julia Roberts. The movie itself is a masterpiece, as we follow a group of people who are hoping to steal from one of the most popular and successful casinos in the world.

There are plenty of hijinks, twists, and heartfelt moments between the characters, not to mention some outstanding depictions of gambling and casino culture.
