As India starts its first test series against South Africa on Wednesday, that is, 2nd of October 2019, hoping to gain a record-breaking victory, One-day big hitter Rohit Sharma will lay a claim to become the country’s first-choice opening Test batsman.
The victory in the three-match series would see India break the record of ten straight home series wins that they hold with Australia at present.
The main focus in the first Test that will be held in Visakhapatnam will be on the 32-year-old Sharma who is known to be a superstar of India’s limited-overs teams as well as skipper of the team ‘Mumbai Indians’ that took away the winning trophy of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 tournament in the year 2019.
However, Sharma has not been a Test regular. The last of his twenty-seven Test caps since the year 2013 was in Australia last year, that is, in the year 2018.
As the opening positions have always remained a problem for India, Sharma has now got a new opportunity to substitute the out-of-form KL Rahul.
