Santosh Sivan’s Inam Movie Gets An OTT Release Date

Based on the Sri Lankan Civil War crisis, ‘Inam’ revolves around a group of teenage orphans and their struggle in the midst of the nation’s political strife. The Tamil movie, which was written, directed, and produced by Santosh Sivan, faced unjust criticism and political suffocation in Tamil Nadu, which prevented it from featuring movie theaters.

Now, after nearly a decade, the most controversial Tamil movie is set to be released on an OTT platform, and here is everything we know about it.

Why was Inam banned from theaters?

‘Inam’ was initially premiered in 2013 at the Busan Internation Film Festival, where it received positive reviews and much commendation. Following the success, the movie was slated to release in Tamil Nadu on March 28, 2014. However, due to the political unease towards Sri Lanka, various Tamil Nadu political parties violently opposed the theatrical release of ‘Inam.’

The movie only managed to run for three days in theaters, after which Santosh Sivan himself withdrew it.

Inam to be released on an OTT platform

Well acclaimed for his controversial storylines, Santosh Sivan has recently announced on his Twitter handle that ‘Inam’ will feature a release on OTT platforms. So this serves as a calling for fans who love his form of movies, or those who want to know what the controversy was about, can catch this movie when it is officially released.

However, there has been no official release date nor any news about the OTT platform that will premiere ‘Inam.’
