Developed by Michael Davies, the show has spawned a total of 20 successful seasons, since its premiere as a regular series on January 18, 2000. Instead of regular contestants, the 2020 edition adds a twist by featuring celebrity contestants who answer a set of questions to win $1 million.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire 2020 Release Date

‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire 2020’ is all set to premiere on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at 10 pm ET, on ABC. It will consist of eight episodes with a runtime of 50-60 minutes each.

Who is the Host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire 2020?

Over its 20-seasons run, the show has seen a lot of hosts like Regis Philbin, Meredith Vieira, Terry Crews, Cedric the Entertainer, Chris Harrison, among others.

Jimmy Kimmel is the latest one to join the list of talented hosts. You may recognize Kimmel from his own late-night talk show ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ His other works include ‘Win Ben Stein’s Money,’ ‘The Man Show,’ ‘Crank Yankers (voice), etc.’ Kimmel has served as the host for many award ceremonies, including the Academy Awards and Emmy Awards because of his strong stage presence and interactive humor. He is also one of the first-ever celebrity contestants to appear on the original version of the show.

What is Who Wants to Be a Millionaire About?

The 2020 edition of the game show follows the basic format as the previous seasons but with a significant change which swaps regular contestants with celebrity contestants. The show features celebrities who test their general knowledge by answering 14 questions, by making use of three lifelines, for a cash prize of $1,000,000, which goes to a specific charity of their choice.

The celebrity contestants are also allowed to ask a friend or an expert to assist them in winning enough money to help those in need. Not just that, by using a new lifeline called ‘Ask the Host,’ the contestants can seek help from the host, Jimmy Kimmel, himself. Also, the revived season allows the audiences to earn the same amount of money as the celebrities, by using the interactive play-along app, which can be accessed from home.
