Reasons Behind HBO’s Cancellation Of ‘Insecure’ After Season 5

Well folks, all good things come to an end. One of HBO’s greatest achievements, Insecure, kicks off the last set of episodes this week. The show has garnered a huge cult following, and for good reason: the series reigns supreme. Audiences are patiently waiting for the final season of Insecure coming, and fans are shocked that the day is finally here.

Fans of the series can’t get enough Insecure, and some people don’t take the news from the last season very well. How do we move forward in a world without Issa, Molly and Lawrence? Well, we’ll have to come up with something. The final season coming after just four seasons has people wondering one thing: why stop now? This is what we found.

Integrity

In a world where almost every series is dragged on long after the quality plummets, and where every movie in theaters is a remake, reboot, sequel or franchise, Issa Rae’s choice is to quit. Insecure after season 5 is unusual. However, the move is proof of Insecure creator & star Issa Rae’s integrity.

Reasons Behind HBO's Cancellation Of ‘Insecure’ After Season 5

While many shows are written as they go and have the potential to run in circles for years and years, Insecure was always meant to end after season 5. Issa Rae recently spoke with DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlemagne tha God on The breakfast club to shed some light on why season 5 will be Insecureis the last.

Don’t stay too long welcome

When Envy asks Rae why she’s ending the show during the interview, Rae answers right away. She says since season 1 she knew she only wanted five seasons. She explained that she thinks that’s the right amount of time it takes to tell a succinct story.

“I like programs that I could watch with endings… don’t stay welcome too long.” That’s what Issa Rae told interviewers, and you have to respect the artist’s POV here. While so many in Hollywood would take more money to pump nagging into the mouths of rabid fans willing to watch anything, Issa Rae knows her story needs to be told correctly, which is why we love her.

Plus, Issa Rae had her team in mind when she decided to quit Insecure after season 5. She told interviewers that asking the show’s big crew both in front of and behind the camera to give years and years of their lives to an ongoing show “felt like a lot.”

Interviewers joked that they don’t think the crew would mind given the huge success of the series, but it seems that question won’t be answered anytime soon. Of course, the next question for Issa was whether she ever had a… Insecure movie.

What do you need a movie for?

In another slam dunk of integrity, Issa Rae told the interviewers she wouldn’t do it Insecure movie.

She said she didn’t want to do a movie and asked the… breakfast club crew, “what do you need a movie for?” Exactly, Issa. Even though it seems like everyone around her is asking Issa Rae to keep Insecure until the series goes bad, she fights to protect her show.

Well, looks like we know why Issa Rae really ends Insecure after season 5: she cares about her show. Now you have no choice but to re-watch the series and wonder what will happen in the end. Will Issa and Lawrence stay together? Will Molly ever invent her shit? Are we going to see Dro again? Is Condola Real are you going to keep this baby?! We’ll have to tune in, week after arduous week, to find out.
