Ravi Shastri to continue as Team India head coach

The BCCI reappoints Ravi Shastri as head coach of the Indian cricket team. The confirmation concerning Ravi Shastri as India’s senior men’s team was confirmed on Friday on the 16th of August. Kapil Dev led the committee which chose Ravi Shastri to become the head coach.

The 57-year-old veteran cricketer Ravi Shastri was one among the six other applicants who were interviewed for the job. Moreover, it is essential to note that the candidature of Shastri’s recruitment process was made automatically.

Lalchand Rajput, the notable manager of an Indian cricket team who represented the country in WT20 in the year 2007, was also one of the applicants of the job. In addition to this, the former fielding coach of India, Robin Singh, Sri Lankan coach Tom Moody, New Zealand’s Mike Hesson were competing Ravi Shastri for the post. The 2016 WT20 coach of West Indies was also on the verge of becoming the new head coach of India.

According to sources, the CAC members such as Anshuman Gaekwad, Shantha Rangaswamy, and Kapil Dev were in charge of interviewing to find India; it’s next head coach. Robin Singh, Hesson, and Rajput were physically present for the interview. On the other hand, Shastri and Moody gave their interviews via video conferencing. The recent coach of Afghanistan, Simmons, didn’t take an active part during the interview process.

The BCCI was expecting Shastri to take the reign of head coach

The reappointment of Shastri was highly expected as the former cricket has the best-in-class working relationship with Virat Kohli. On the other hand, the present-day Indian captain publicly admitted that he is looking forward to working alongside Shastri again. Kohli put forward his support for the appointment of Shastri before departing for the West Indies Tour.

Shastri was the director of the team from the term 2014-2016; however, he lost to Anil Kumble in the year 2016. Additionally, Shastri succeeded Kumble after the infamous fallout between Kohli and Kumble in the same year.
