No Athi Varadar Darshan on August 17 – Last day for darshan will be August 16

The end of the 48 days event of rising Lord Sri Athi Varadar is very near. The darshan of the Lord started from 1st of July 2019 and a large number of Pilgrims have already visited.

The Lord will be immersed in water on the last day and will remain there for the next 40 years. So the Pilgrims who wish to take a glimpse of the lord have very less time left now.

The District Collector of Kancheepuram, P. Ponniah, did an announcement on Thursday, 8th of August 2019, regarding the last day of Athi Varadar darshan.

He said that there will be no darshan of Athi Varadar at Sri Devarajaswamy temple on 17th of August 2019 and the idol will be sent back to its vault inside the Ananthasaras tank.

At a press meet at Kancheepuram, the district collector said that the last day of Athi Varadar darshan is now 16th of August and not 17th of August, as was declared previously. Accordingly, the time for the darshan will be prolonged.

Also, the decision has been taken in consultation with the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and the archakas of the temple, that there will be no VIP darshan on the 16th of August.

The collector added, “The district administration plans to add more parking points and allow devotees to stay near the parking lots from where they would be taken to the temple.”

It is expected that a lot of people will visit Kanchi on the last day of darshan and hence they are requested to be all ready for a long wait and a huge rush.

The timings of darshan will remain the same even on the last day. However, darshan will be stopped by the afternoon. Further details are yet to be announced.
