Dhanush starrer action drama film Karnan has landed into troubling waters as the film has leaked on the illegitimate and notorious websites Tamilrockers, Movierulz, and Telegram. Mari Selvaraj directs the film. The film was released on April 9, 2021, with 50% occupancy in the Tamil Nadu theatres amidst postponement speculations. The film has received positive reviews and critical acclaim, but the leak could drastically affect the collections.
What is the plot of Karnan?
Karnan is based on real-life events which took place in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli. It revolves around a sword-wielding warrior riding a horse played by Dhanush, who stands up for the villager’s rights and fights for them. The shooting was completed by December 2020, but the production was delayed due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.
Besides Dhanush, the film also stars Rajisha Vijayan, Lal Paul, Yogi Babu, Natarajan Subramaniam, Gouri G Kishan, and Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli.
Santhosh Narayanan has composed brilliant music for the film.
Karnan: Controversies
The film received a lot of backlash due to its title as a section of society felt that the title would be a misleading one if the film is recreating the story of Mahabharat. People also said that while ‘Karnan’ meant a benevolent giver, the film was about fighting for rights. Even the fans of Sivaji Ganesan were unhappy with the title who had played mythological character Karnan.
Later, protests were also organized seeking a ban on the film as there were claims that the film is based on caste riots that happened in Kodyankulam, which were later denied to the makers. And now the film is again in trouble with the leak.
