India got independence in 1947, after a series of historic events that took place back in time. India was under British rule for almost 2 centuries. It is because of the efforts of our freedom fighters and their followers we got our Independence.

Importance of Independence day

Independence day is as important as any other festival in India. It is the day when we got freedom from the British rule. Freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Rani Laxmi Bai, and many others helped India gain its independence.

After Independence, India became the largest democracy in the world. Before Independence, Britishers exploited India of its goods (spices, cotton, and other raw material) and wealth.

Before the British rule, India was known as the Golden eagle, but Britishers exploited India of all its riches and wealth. After Independence, the GDP of India seemed to have increased. This is why Independence Day is important for us Indians.

India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of Europe’s languages: she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all.    By: Will Durant (American historian)

Whenever I have read any part of the Vedas, I have felt that some unearthly and unknown light illuminated me. In the great teaching of the Vedas, there is no touch of sectarianism. When I read it, I feel that I am under the spangled heavens of a summer night.    By: Henry David Thoreau (American Thinker & Author)
