Five Surf Destinations to Visit in 2022

The ultimate dream for many surfers is to pack a light bag and take off, exploring the coast and the waves as you travel. Of course, the reality for most people is that you have responsibilities and surfing is something you do whenever you can. That’s why you need to plan a vacation and select one of the following five destinations to visit in 2022.

It is important to note that many great surfing spots are isolated and lack facilities but can still get crowded. If you’re new to surfing or just learning it is better to stick to the main beaches where there are plenty of others, including surf lifesavers, to help if you have problems.

You can also try the Surf Life Saving lotteries, you never know when you could win, it could transform your life.

1. Sydney

When most people think of Sydney they think of the Sydney Opera House or one of the other famous city sites. These are worth a visit. But, this is also an amazing surfing destination.

Sydney’s northern beaches stretch between Manly Beach to Palm Beach and offer fantastic surfing experiences for surfers of all levels. There is approximately 30km of coastline for you to try.

Of course, having all the facilities of the city on your doorstep also helps.

2. Hawaii

There are few better destinations for surfers and holidaymakers than Hawaii.

You’ll be able to choose from a wide assortment of beaches for all surfing levels. Or, you can simply relax on the sand. It’s fair to say Oahu is the best island in Hawaii, the northern coast has the best waves and something for all levels. However, don’t visit in winter, this is when the waves are large and its best to let the professionals enjoy it.

3. Ecuador

Images of Ecuador usually centre around rainforests or the giant tortoises of the Galapagos Islands. But, if you check out the mainland you’ll find there are a number of fantastic surfing spots. As it is situated on the equator the weather is consistent and the waves hit from the north in the winter and the south in the summer.

In short, you’ll never be short of a wave!

4. Seal Rocks & Treachery, Australia

This destination faces south and benefits from gentle, but sizeable waves in the summer months. You’re certain to find the perfect wave. However, what may surprise you is how undeveloped this section of coastline is.

There are no big vacation centres, just small villages and an abundance of dolphins.

5. Nova Scotia

If you want to push your boundaries and don’t mind travelling then Nova Scotia in Canada will give you cold water, stunning views; and impressive surf. There are three island groups, creating plenty of waves. Experienced surfers will enjoy the thrill of ice-cold water while beginners will benefit from the local surf school.

Whatever your preference, there is a destination for you to enjoy surfing and experience new things. 2022 is the year to broaden your horizons.
