Doctor Who Season 13 comes to BBC America on October 31, 2021, and Jodie Whittaker returns as the thirteenth Doctor on screen. But there was news that she will not be returning as the fourteenth time lord in the series.
In the recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker both said this will be the last time they’ll be working together in Doctor Who season 13.
Whittaker said that
“There was a point where I definitely thought, ‘Uhh, I don’t know…’ We started with this [season] and I thought, ‘I don’t know if I’ll be able to commit to this decision.’ Amazingly, when I got into it, it didn’t feel like we were both being held to our own conversation. It was still very much, between me and him, a very active conversation. But the moment you’re filming and you’re like, ‘Okay, what are we doing?’, there was just something like, ‘I think this is the right time.’ I know there will be another doctor at some point, and I feel I can give them this wholeheartedly, through tears, and go, ‘Aww, mate, you lucky one, you’re getting an absolute pearl.’”
As we all know, Whittaker is leaving the show after Doctor Who Season 13, although she said in the same interview:
“I want people to know that I really threw myself into it completely and gave it everything I have so I didn’t miss anyone,” Whittaker added. ‘What has been very important to me is that I have seen this trip side by side with my sister from another gentleman. The joy I’ve had going to work with Mandip every day [Gill], and [having] Yaz and the Doctor who are still together on this crazy adventure has been amazing.”
