2022 OSCARS PREDICTIONS:
BEST DIRECTOR

UPDATED: Sept 30, 2021

AWARDS PREDICTION COMMENTARY: With the Toronto International Film Festival handing out its prestigious People’s Choice prize to Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast,” the Focus Features drama has the authority to declare itself the best picture front-runner for this awards season — but holding on to the throne won’t be easy.

Speaking of thrones, Joel Coen’s adaptation of “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” his first solo directorial helm without his brother Ethan in years, played like gangbusters at the Sept. 24 opening night of the New York Film Festival. He will be in the conversation with the William Shakespeare adaptation but there will be many for Oscar to consider.

The buzz for “King Richard” continues to grow, and will undoubtedly be an audience pleaser. Can it go further for Reinaldo Marcus Green in the director’s space?

Oscar nominations voting begins on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, and will end on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022. The official Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, with the ceremony taking place on Sunday, March 27, 2022.
