Protests against the in-principal clearance granted earlier this year in May for uranium exploration in Nallamala forests, part of which falls in the Amrabad Tiger Reserve, by the Central government, has now garnered support from two major Tollywood celebrities.

Both actors Pawan Kalyan and Vijay Deverakonda tweeted on Thursday, using the hashtag #SaveNallamala, a socio-political movement that has been gaining traction over the last few months.

Pawan Kalyan tweeted a few times, showing his angst against uranium exploration and mining in the Nallamala forest region. On Wednesday too, he tweeted, saying politicians need to take a serious stand on whether they want to leave behind a ‘Bangaru Telangana’ for future generations instead of a uranium-polluted Telangana. In another tweet, he posted an excerpt from a letter by a Native American Chief to the United States Government while inquiring about the purchase of tribal lands – “Earth doesn’t belong to man, man belongs to earth.”

On Thursday, Vijay Devarakonda shared his thoughts on the same issue, saying the government should either purchase uranium or pursue clean renewable energy such as solar power over the mining of uranium is Nallamala. The tweet garnered more than 12,000 likes and was retweeted at least 3,000 times.
